Fishing derby reels in some 500 kids, despite weather
Youngsters age 3 to 15 cast their lines into Lincoln Park Lagoon Sunday during the 24th annual Fishing Derby. Chilly, rainy weather cut into attendance. The Fishing Derby began during Galesburg’s sesquicentennial as a family activity. The derby began at noon and ended at 3 p.m., when fishing was then opened to the public. Despite the weather, the derby attracted about 500 children this year.

Fishing derby set for June 4; registration due by May 31
Jasper Conservation Connection, Izaak Walton League and the Jasper County Conservation Board will host the fourth annual Hook, Line & Sinker Family Fishing Derby beginning at 9 a.m. June 4 at the Izaak Walton League Clubhouse in Newton.
